Hunt Predicts
Good Future For
Basketball

Although last years was a very disappointing one for our basketball team, Coach Ken Hunt feels this year will be different. "This years team is the biggest one we've had in four years", says Coach Hunt. There are only four returning lettermen from last year and six transfers that will help out a lot.
Tim Arnold and Greg Strickland will return at the forward spots. "Big" Joe Millay who has reached the height of 6'7" will return to his high post position. All-conference choice, Tommy McClarty, who was high scorer and best ball handler will return at a guard position. The other guard position will be up for grabs and will be determined during the next few weeks. Chester Abrams, Charles Harris, Lewis Poe and Stevie McClarty will move up from the "B" team.
New members of the team are: Ghobes Collins, Bernard Grayer, Willie Woody, Walter Jefferson, Howard Stephenson and Steve Williams.
This year we will play thirteen home games. The first game will be against Messick on November 19, instead of the 22nd.

Favazza, Wheely Place
In State Meet

The Cross-Country team accomplished the goal they had set at the beginning of the season. On November 6, the group od six hard working, dedicated boys represented the red and blue in a state meet for a second year in a row. Westwood finished third in the Regional, qualifying them for the state meet in Nashville.
The six boys who re- presented Westwood were Steve Favazza, Tim Wheely, Steve McClarty, Ronnie Lovelady, Doyle Whitehead and Cecil Williams. Among these six Steve Favazza and Tim Wheely were recognized as outstanding in the meet and were given medals. Steve finished fifth in the meet and Tim finished thirteenth. This makes the second year in a row that Steve has gotten a medal in the State, while this makes the third year in a row that Tim has won a medal as an outstanding runner.
The team finished seventh in the State meet. Coach Hunt stated, "I am real proud of the team and I think they have put forth a fine effort and have worked real hard. We have three juniors coming back, so we should have another good team next year."
Steve's time for the two-mile run was 10.01. This is the fastest a Westwood runner has ever run the course. He finished only 13 seconds behind the winner. Steve's fifth place finish is also the best a Westwood runner has placed in the state.
